According to officials, Nasire Best, 21, was shot dead outside the White House on Saturday evening (May 23) after opening fire on Secret Service agents. Best, who believed he was Jesus Christ, drew a revolver near 17th Street Northwest and fired approximately 30 shots at the Secret Service booth before being killed in the subsequent gunfire exchange. One adult civilian sustained injuries during the shooting, and the White House was placed under lockdown with President Donald Trump inside at the time.

It has since been revealed that Best had a violent history and prior incidents involving the White House. During the June incident, Best was sent to the Psychiatric Institute of Washington for mental assessment after declaring he was 'God'.
