72 of 102 Economists Predict Fed Will Hold Rates Through 2026

According to a Reuters survey, 72 of 102 U.S. economists currently predict the Federal Reserve will maintain the federal funds rate in the 3.50%-3.75% range through the end of 2026 rather than cut rates, as Middle East-driven energy prices keep inflation pressures above expectations. The forecast, representing nearly 70% of respondents, marks a sharp reversal from last month when less than half held that view. Fed officials will hold their next policy meeting on June 16-17, with no surveyed economists expecting a rate cut announcement.
