China Opposes Japan-Philippines Maritime Delimitation Talks on June 9

According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian on June 9, China firmly opposes Japan and the Philippines initiating maritime delimitation talks without Beijing's involvement in waters east of Taiwan, where China has claimed exclusive economic zone and continental shelf rights. The talks violate international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and infringe on China's maritime rights, the spokesman said.
