According to OpenAI President Greg Brokeman’s testimony on May 5 during the second week of the California trial, Elon Musk previously supported converting OpenAI into a for-profit company and demanded full control of the organization. Brokeman stated that Musk cited the need to raise $8 billion for his Mars colonization plan as a key reason for the restructuring. The testimony emerged in Musk’s ongoing lawsuit against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman, in which Musk alleges the company abandoned its nonprofit founding principles and seeks $150 billion in damages.
