According to Xinhua News Agency, six South African human rights activists were released and returned to Johannesburg on May 23 after being detained by Israeli authorities for several days. The activists had been intercepted while participating in the Global Flotilla for Resilience to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. Upon their release, they alleged they were mistreated in custody, describing the conditions as worse than those experienced during South Africa's apartheid era.
