UK Plans Ban on Social Media for Under-16s, Citing Australia Model

According to UK media reports, Prime Minister Starmer plans to announce restrictions preventing individuals under 16 from accessing "harmful" online platforms. The decision follows consultations with parents who have lost children and review of evidence from Australia, which became the first country globally to impose a minimum age requirement on social platforms in December 2025. Australia's law prohibits users under 16 from creating accounts on ten platforms, including X and Facebook.
