Venezuela, IMPSA Renegotiate Hydroelectric Contract to Add 672 MW, U.S. Approves Equipment Export

According to Reuters, energy company IMPSA and Venezuela's government are renegotiating a hydroelectric contract previously stalled for over a decade, with negotiations expected to conclude within months. The deal aims to inject 672 megawatts of critical generating capacity into Venezuela's strained power grid. U.S. policy licensing approval issued earlier in 2026 has cleared the way for key equipment, including turbines previously held in Argentine warehouses due to sanctions and payment disputes, to be exported and assembled on-site.
