Within this week (May 6-7, 2026), the founders Dr. Chengdiao Fan and Nicolas Kokkalis appeared on the main stage of the world's largest crypto event Consensus 2026 in Miami. They delivered a clear message: The verified identity (KYC) user network of Pi is the solution to distinguish real users from bots in the booming AI era.

Alongside this media effect, Pi Network (#Pi i) is undergoing its most important technical upgrade of the year:
Protocol 22: Completed at the end of April 2026, upgrading the network to Stellar Core 22 to enhance speed and stability.
Protocol 23 (Upcoming activation): Scheduled to activate on May 11, 2026 (Node update deadline is May 15). This upgrade will officially unlock Smart Contract functionality, allowing developers to build complex dApps, tokenize assets, and automate financial transactions on-chain.
Pi's user volume remains the project's greatest asset, but the focus has shifted from "quantity" to "quality":
Identity verification (KYC): About 18 million "Pioneers" (out of over 60 million users) have passed KYC and successfully transferred Pi to the Mainnet wallet.
Node network: Over 421,000 nodes are active, maintaining blockchain decentralization.
Pi Network currently has more than 300 active dApps (ranging from e-commerce like PiChainMall to social media platforms). The network is striving to shift from speculation to practical use of Pi, such as freelance payments, digital item purchases, and QR payments at local stores.
