The United States sanctions three Chinese companies involved in providing satellite imagery to Iran
As Washington steps up efforts to restrict technical support to Tehran in the Middle East conflict, the United States has imposed sanctions on three Chinese companies for providing satellite imagery to Iran, enabling Iran to carry out military strikes against U.S. forces deployed in the Middle East.
Foreign media reports that U.S. Secretary of State Rubio said in a statement that Mie Sheng Technology (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd., Beijing Weimei Starry Sky Technology Co., Ltd., and Changguang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. have been added to U.S. lists of entities and individuals assisting Iran.
The U.S. State Department said that Mie Sheng Technology released detailed open-source images documenting U.S. military activities during the “Epic Fury” operation, while Beijing Weimei Starry Sky provided satellite imagery to Iran. The statement said that at Tehran’s request, Changguang Satellite collected data on U.S. military and allied forces. The company had previously been sanctioned by the United States.
The move comes about a week before the highly anticipated summit between U.S. President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Previously, the U.S. sanctioned a large private Chinese oil refining company on the grounds of alleged ties to Iran, prompting Beijing to require its companies not to cooperate.
