ByteDance reportedly increases AI infrastructure spending by 25%

As the cost of memory chips rises and ByteDance accelerates its AI deployment, the company is reportedly increasing this year’s AI infrastructure spending plan by 25%, to 200 billion yuan (RMB).

The Financial Times quoted sources as saying that ByteDance has raised its AI capital expenditure budget from 160 billion yuan at the end of last year, and currently plans to allocate a larger proportion of funds to the domestic AI chip sector.

According to data from Bloomberg Industry Research, for most of last year, ByteDance’s chatbot application “Doubao” was the highest downloaded AI chatbot in China.
