Just realized a lot of people are struggling with updating their SASSA details. Been through the process myself recently, so thought I'd share what actually works.

So here's the thing - if you're getting a permanent grant (old age, disability, child grant), you pretty much have to go to the SASSA office in person. Can't do it online, unfortunately. You'll need your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months works), and they'll give you a form to fill out. They send everything to the bank for verification after, which takes about 3 weeks. Important note: the account has to be in YOUR name only - no joint accounts or anything.

If you're on the SRD R370 grant though, that's different. You can actually change your bank details online through their portal. Just enter your ID number, they'll send you an SMS link, and you follow the prompts. Way simpler honestly.

Now about changing your cellphone number - this is actually crucial because they use it for verification and payment alerts. For SRD, there's an online contact details page where you can update it. For permanent grants, honestly just call the helpline (0800 60 10 11) or go to your local office. Some people have had issues with the online stuff, so sometimes it's safer to do it in person.

One more thing - watch out for fake websites claiming they can change your grant details. Stick to the official SASSA portal only. Seen too many people get caught out by that.

Anyone else had to go through this recently? What was your experience like?
