Just realized a lot of people are confused about updating their SASSA grant info, especially the online stuff for SRD. Let me break down what actually works because I've been through this recently.

So if you're on the R350 SRD grant and need to change your banking details online, it's actually pretty straightforward compared to the permanent grants. You go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they send you a link via SMS. Click the link, update your bank account info, and you're done. Takes a few days to verify but way easier than going to an office. Important thing though - the account has to be in YOUR name, not someone else's.

For the phone number update on SRD, same deal - use their contact portal, enter your ID and application number, put in the new number, get an OTP sent to verify it. Sounds simple but there are fake websites out there, so make sure you're actually on the official SASSA page.

Now if you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child support), that's different. You actually have to go to a SASSA office in person - no online option for changing bank details. You need your ID, proof of the new bank account (bank statement under 3 months old), fill out their form, and wait up to 21 days for it to process. And if you submit after the 15th of the month, it won't take effect until the next month's payment.

Phone number changes for permanent grants you can try calling their helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or just visit an office. Honestly the office visit might be faster even though it's annoying.

Anyone else had issues with the online updates? The verification sometimes takes longer than they say.
