Just realized a lot of people are confused about how to update their banking details on SASSA grants. If you're getting the R370 SRD grant or any permanent grant, the process is different depending on which one you're on, so let me break it down.

For the SRD grant, it's actually pretty straightforward online. You go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they send you a secure link via SMS. Then you just add your account number and bank details through that link. The whole thing takes a few days to weeks for the bank to verify, but that's it. Just make sure the account is in your name only—no joint accounts or using someone else's account.

If you're on a permanent grant like old age or disability, it's different. You have to go in person to your nearest SASSA office with your original ID, a recent bank statement (not older than 3 months), and fill out the Payment Method Change Form. They'll verify everything and send it to the bank, which can take up to 21 working days. The tricky part is timing—if you want the change to take effect next month, you need to submit it before the 15th of the current month.

For changing your phone number, the SRD portal also has a dedicated section where you enter your ID and application ID, then they send an OTP to your new number to confirm. If you're struggling with the online process, just call the SASSA helpline at 0800 60 10 or visit your local office. Better safe than sorry with this stuff, honestly.
