Just had to update my SASSA details and honestly, the process is different depending on which grant you're on. If you're getting a permanent grant like old age or disability, you pretty much have to go in person to your nearest SASSA office - no way around it. You'll need your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months works), and they'll give you a form to fill out. Takes up to 21 days to process once the bank verifies everything, so if you need it sorted for next month's payment, get it done before the 15th or you'll be waiting another cycle.

Now if you're on the SRD R370 grant, that's way easier because it's all online. You go to the srd sassa gov za portal, enter your ID number, and they send you a link via SMS to update your banking details. The whole thing is pretty secure and the account has to be in your name - they won't pay into joint accounts or anything like that. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for the bank to verify the new account.

Changing your phone number is just as important honestly, especially for SRD since that's how they send you the verification codes. For permanent grants you'd call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office. For SRD, there's a contact details page on the portal where you enter your ID and application number, put in your new number, and they send you an OTP to confirm. Real quick heads up though - there are fake websites out there pretending to be SASSA, so always make sure you're using the official portal. Not worth risking your personal info over.
