Just realized I haven't updated my SASSA details in ages—banking info, phone number, all of it. Turns out there's different processes depending on whether you're on the permanent grants or the SRD thing. If you're getting the regular old age or disability grant, you actually have to go in person to a SASSA office to change your banking details. They won't let you do it online, which is a bit annoying but makes sense for security I guess. You need your ID, proof of the new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months works), and they process it from there—can take up to 21 working days to kick in.

For the cellphone number though, you can sometimes call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11, but honestly going in person is probably safer if you want to avoid any mix-ups. Now if you're on the SRD grant (the R370 one), that's all online which is way easier. You go to the portal, enter your ID number, they send you an SMS link, and you update everything from there. Same thing with changing your R350 number or whatever contact details—you just need to verify with an OTP they send to your new number.

The thing that got me though is they keep warning about fake websites trying to scam people into giving their details. So definitely make sure you're on the actual official SASSA portal, not some dodgy link. If the online thing isn't working, just call them or visit an office. Honestly wish they made this stuff simpler but at least there's a process, right?
