Just went through the whole SASSA banking update process and honestly, it depends which grant you're getting. If it's the permanent ones like old age or disability, you literally have to go in person to a SASSA office—can't do it online no matter what. You'll need to fill out their Payment Method Change Form, bring your ID, and proof of your new bank account (they want a stamped bank statement not older than 3 months). The bank verification takes up to 21 working days, so if you want it done before the next payment cycle, submit before the 15th of the month.

Now if you're on the SRD R350 grant, that's way simpler—you change bank details right on their portal online, which is actually pretty secure. Same thing though: account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts. They'll send you an SMS link to verify everything.

For changing your phone number, permanent grant holders should call the helpline (0800 60 10 11) or just go to the office. SRD people can update it on the portal too—they'll send you an OTP to confirm. Heads up though, there are fake websites out there claiming to help with this stuff. Only use the official SASSA portal to change bank details or contact info. Trust me, not worth the risk.
