Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA details without running into issues. Been reading up on this because honestly the process is different depending on which grant you're on.

So if you're getting a permanent grant like old age or disability, you basically have to go in person to a SASSA office. They won't let you change banking details online no matter what. You need to fill out a Payment Method Change Form, bring your ID and proof of your bank account (stamped statement not older than 3 months works), and they'll process it. Takes up to 21 days for the bank to verify, and if you submit after the 15th of the month you're waiting another cycle. They're strict about this - the account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts.

But if you're on the SRD grant, it's completely different. That's all online through the official SASSA SRD portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS to your registered number, and you update your SRD banking details through that link. The bank verification takes a few days to a couple weeks. Way simpler than the permanent grant process.

Cellphone number changes follow the same pattern - permanent grants need a visit to the office or a call to 0800 60 10 11, but SRD has its own contact portal where you enter your ID, get an OTP sent to your new number, and confirm the change. Just make sure you're using the official SASSA website because there's apparently a lot of fake sites trying to scam people.

The key thing is don't miss those deadlines and always use official channels. Seen too many people mess this up and then complain about missed payments.
