Just realized a lot of people are confused about updating their SASSA details, especially the SRD contact update stuff. Let me break down what I learned from dealing with this recently.

If you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child support), you pretty much have to go in person to your local SASSA office. Can't do it online, unfortunately. You'll need your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months), and they'll give you a form to fill out. Takes up to 21 working days to process, and if you submit after the 15th of the month, it won't kick in until next month. Also remember—the account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts or anything.

For the SRD R370 grant though, it's way simpler. Everything's done online through the official SASSA SRD portal, which is actually pretty secure. You enter your ID number, they send you an SMS link, you click it and update your bank details. Same rule applies—account must be in your name. The SRD contact update process is similar: go to the contact details page, enter your ID and application ID, punch in your new phone number, and they'll send you an OTP to verify.

One thing that got me—make sure you're using the official SASSA website. There are fake sites out there trying to scam people, especially for SRD phone number updates. If the online portal gives you trouble, just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 or visit an office in person. It takes longer but it's way safer.

Anyone else had issues with their SRD contact update? The whole process should be straightforward but sometimes the portal acts up.
