U.S. officials meet with Qatar's Prime Minister to push for Iran ceasefire
Golden Finance reports that on May 10, U.S. Secretary of State Rubio and White House special envoy Witkoff met with Qatari Prime Minister Al Thani in Miami on Saturday, focusing on discussions about ending the Iran war. At present, the U.S. and Iran are negotiating a one-page ceasefire memorandum, with the aim of laying the groundwork for more detailed talks that would follow. Qatar is playing a key mediating role in this process. The day before, Al Thani had met with Vice President Vance in Washington, then temporarily changed his schedule to go to Miami, during which he also called Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister to coordinate positions. As of Saturday afternoon, the U.S. side was still waiting for a response from Iran. Besides Qatar, multiple countries including Pakistan, Egypt, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia are working together to push both sides to ease tensions and reach an agreement. Insiders say that the mediators are urging both sides to focus on the agreement itself.
