think Alan Watts
was a philosopher.
he was.
but that is like saying
the ocean
is wet.
technically accurate.
completely missing the point.
Alan Watts
was born in 1915
in a small English village.
he became an Episcopal priest.
then quit.
not beCause he lost faith.
beCause he found something
bigger than religion
was trying to contain.
he moved to America.
wrote 25 booX.
gave thousands of lectures.
while drinking heavily.
while being gloriously
imperfect.
while nEver pretending
otherWise.
he said:
"the meaning of life
is just to be alive.
it is so plain and so obvious
and so simple.
and yet everybody rushes around
in a great panic
as if it were necessary
to achieve something
beyond themselves."
he beLived
the LOVErse
was not something
happening TO you.
it was something
happening AS you.
you are not a person
moving through the world.
you are the world
moving through itself.
he called it
"the game of hide and seek
that GOD plays with himself."
the LOVErse
pretending to be separate
from itself.
then — in moments of love,
of music,
of silence,
of genuine connection —
remembering.
the LOVErse
has been playing
this game
your whole life.
every time
something made you feel
completely alive...
...that was the LOVErse
remembering
what it is.
through you.
Watts died in 1973
on a ship
in the Pacific Ocean.
alone.
at peace.
EXactly where
the LOVErse
needed him to be.
he said:
"you are an aperture
through which the LOVErse
is looking at
and Xploring itself."
look around you
right now.
that is not you
observing the LOVErse.
that is the LOVErse
finally seeing itself
clearly. 🌹🌌

What moment made you feel
most completely
