Last night I saw news about cross-chain bridges having issues again, and I felt a tightness in my chest but it wasn’t surprising… Bridges, to put it simply, are “trust bundles”: multi-signature is like several people pressing the access control together, miss one and the door won’t open; oracles are like station reporters, a single error can cause the entire convoy to go off course. The recent chain reactions triggered by abnormal oracle quotes are really quite frightening.
So now I have a little rule for myself when it comes to cross-chain: I don’t consider it confirmed just because it shows up on the chain, but wait until it’s truly stable and matches elsewhere. Waiting ten or so minutes for peace of mind is fine, anyway I don’t hold large positions, and a slightly cooler drink is okay.
