Trump Threatens to Continue Attacks, Iran Walks Out of Peace Negotiations in Switzerland
Iranian negotiation delegation officially leaves the negotiation site in Switzerland as a protest against the threats issued by Donald Trump. Iranian state media reported that the threat violated the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) dated June 18, which prohibits the use of threats or military force.
This walkout action was triggered by President Trump's statement via the Truth Social platform on Sunday (6/21), warning Iran to immediately cease activities of its proxy groups in Lebanon. In the post, Trump emphasized that the United States would attack Iran again with greater intensity if the warning is ignored. In response to this escalation, a member of the Iranian negotiation delegation in Switzerland confirmed that talks would not progress unless the war in Lebanon is ended. ISNA news agency also reported Iran's warning that the peace agreement between the US and Iran could be canceled if the Israeli military does not immediately leave southern Lebanon.
Before deciding to leave the negotiation table, the Iranian delegation was reportedly discussing asset freeze documents with Qatar representatives. A member of the Iranian negotiation team told state media that operational steps to unblock Iran's frozen assets had been carried out with direct participation from the Qatar delegation.
Meanwhile, the situation in the Middle East is heating up as Israel remains firm in refusing to withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon. A strong statement from Israel's Defense Minister, rejecting the withdrawal, is seen as escalating tensions, leading to a deadlock in diplomatic negotiations in Switzerland.
