Official from the South Korean Presidential Office: Samsung and SK Hynix's new chip cluster planning is entering the final stage

Kim Yong-bum, head of the Policy Office of the Office of the President of South Korea, said on June 24 that the plans by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to build a new semiconductor cluster have entered the final discussion stage, and will be officially announced to the public once finalized. Kim Yong-bum noted that due to the “explosive growth” in chip demand from the artificial intelligence (AI) industry, the two companies’ existing construction progress for the Yongin semiconductor cluster will be significantly accelerated. Of these, SK Hynix plans to build four wafer fabs in Yongin, and is currently considering bringing forward the completion time of the fourth factory from the originally planned 2044 to 2034.
