What is the worst outcome I've seen from starting a business?

A few years ago, there was a barbecue restaurant downstairs in our neighborhood. The shop was very small, with only enough space for two or three tables inside, but there was a 200-square-meter concrete yard outside where about ten tables could be set up at night. Since it was an old neighborhood with a high occupancy rate, business was booming.

One day, the owner announced he was quitting and going back to his hometown. A waiter at the shop thought it was a golden opportunity and ended up buying the shop for 270k RMB. Within a week, the city management came and turned the 200-square-meter concrete yard into a green belt. Because the shop was too small to accommodate customers inside, business plummeted. After struggling for a few months, it closed down.
