Iran seeks to control the underwater internet cables in the Strait of Hormuz

BlockBeats News, May 10, according to Fars News Agency, Iran is pushing for licensing, fees, and legal jurisdiction to be imposed on foreign cable operators. These cables carry a large amount of data traffic between Europe, the Gulf region, and Asia.

Iran also requires that all management and maintenance work must be handled exclusively by domestic companies. Previously, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that attacks could be launched against the relevant submarine cable infrastructure.
