Jensen Huang dispels the myth of AI unemployment: It will not eliminate workers, but will create a large number of new job opportunities
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang dismisses “AI doomsday” theories. He emphasizes that agentic AI will drive a thousandfold increase in compute demand, and he says AI is a job-creating power generator that can help drive the U.S. back into reindustrialization by boosting productivity.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang recently took part in a panel discussion on the AI era, “Global Conference 2026,” hosted by the Milken Institute, an economic policy think tank. Addressing market concerns that artificial intelligence (AI) could trigger widespread unemployment, Huang remains highly optimistic. He not only rejects the “AI doomsday” narrative, but also directly states that AI is an important engine for driving U.S. reindustrialization and creating employment opportunities. In addition, he revealed that the next wave of “agentic AI” will spur an unprecedented surge in GPU computing demand and a corresponding infrastructure boom.
Agentic AI Is on the Rise! It Will Drive GPU Compute Demand to Explode by a Thousand Times
At the event, Huang stressed that generative AI has already brought major changes worldwide, but the “agentic AI” expected to follow will require 1,000 times more processing capability than generative AI. This will keep pushing the market’s demand for GPUs higher and higher. He noted that the AI industry is driven by new types of industrial plants. The hardware produced by these plants is the key infrastructure that the AI industry cannot do without. And in building, manufacturing, and operating them, society will inevitably see a huge demand for labor—just like other parts of the rapidly growing AI industry chain.
Breaking the Unemployment Myth: AI Improves Productivity, It Doesn’t Replace Workers
In response to concerns that AI will cause large-scale unemployment, Huang clearly said, “AI is a large-scale industrial generator of jobs.” When the host asked whether AI development happening too quickly could lead to social disorder and worsening inequality, Huang explained that many people confuse “the purpose of work” with “work tasks.” Even if AI can automate and take over certain specific individual tasks, employees still have broader roles and core value within corporate organizations. He emphasized that AI’s main purpose is to increase productivity and accelerate scientific discovery—not to simply eliminate workers.
Huang Jensen: Overhyping the “AI Doomsday” Will Hinder National Development
Beyond economic impacts, Huang also laid out blueprints for AI’s application across different professional fields. He proposed an open-source AI “swarm” concept for cybersecurity, and he expects that real-time AI analysis will completely upend medical diagnostic models. He also expressed concern about the United States’ hesitation regarding AI development, saying that overhyped sci-fi doomsday stories have frightened the public, leading people to fear or even refuse to engage with AI—something that could hinder the country’s leadership position in this field. To that end, he strongly advocates for responsible AI development and calls for cross-border cooperation on international safety standards.
Will AI Disrupt the Economy? The Job Market Still Needs Long-Term Testing
Although Huang downplayed claims that AI has self-awareness and poses risks to human survival, debates over AI’s long-term economic impact in the market remain full of contention. Some critics argue that most doomsday rhetoric actually comes from within the AI industry itself—used as a gimmick to generate buzz and marketing heat—while its real capabilities often fall short of what is advertised.
In addition, although NVIDIA is confident about the job market being driven by AI, some authoritative financial and academic institutions are more conservative. They point out that in the coming few years in the United States, as much as 15% of job opportunities could disappear due to AI adoption. The long-term, tangible impact of AI on the overall economy and labor market still needs to be further verified through time and market testing.
