In a significant shift among Egypt’s wealthiest elite, Naguib Sawiris has now claimed the title of Egypt’s richest man, overtaking his younger brother Nassef Sawiris, who held the top position for several years. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Naguib’s wealth now stands at approximately $9.2 billion, positioning him ahead of Nassef’s $9.1 billion fortune.

The wealth accumulation gap between the brothers has widened notably this year. Since the beginning of 2026, Naguib’s fortune has expanded by $2.3 billion, substantially outpacing Nassef’s wealth growth of $413 million. This acceleration in the older brother’s wealth trajectory has proven decisive in the brothers’ race for Egypt’s top billionaire spot.

The momentum continued into the most recent week, with Naguib adding another $42 million to his wealth, while Nassef experienced a decline of approximately $47 million. These weekly fluctuations underscore the volatile nature of billionaire wealth rankings, which shift based on real-time market movements and asset valuations. The transition marks a notable development in Egypt’s business landscape, with the richest man in Egypt now being the more senior of the two Sawiris brothers.
