Just realized a lot of South Africans probably don't know how to properly update their SASSA grant details, especially when things change. Like, if you need to update your banking information or your phone number, the process is actually pretty different depending on which grant you're getting.

For the permanent grants (old age, disability, child grants), you basically have to go in person to a SASSA office - can't do it online. You need your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months works), and they'll process it for you. Takes up to 21 working days after that. Oh, and if you're trying to change it, do it before the 15th of the month or you'll miss that payment cycle.

But here's the thing - if you're on the SRD application, it's way easier. The whole thing is online through their portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a link via SMS, and you can update your banking details and phone number right there. The SRD update process is designed to be electronic-only since they handle so many applications. Just remember the account has to be in your own name, not a joint account or anything.

Also, heads up - there are fake websites out there pretending to help with SRD updates. Always use the official SASSA portal to protect yourself. If the online thing doesn't work, just call 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office in person. Honestly, for anything complicated, going in person is probably your safest bet anyway.
