Abstract generation in progress

Europol warns that crime using digital assets is becoming increasingly sophisticated. Burkhard Mühl, head of the European Financial and Economic Crime Center (EFECC), stated at the Global Conference on Finance and Crypto Assets that the abuse of cryptocurrencies has become complex and widespread. Europol is committed to enhancing support for member states in investigating transnational crime.

According to Chainalysis, illegal cryptocurrency addresses have received about $40.9 billion in 2024. The agency has dismantled several major crime networks, including a ring in Latvia and an investment scam that embezzled over $540 million. In Europe, ransomware attacks on cryptocurrency wallets are also on the rise. Experts emphasize the difficulties in cross-border cooperation and the lack of standardization in blockchain analysis.
