U.S. venture capital firm a16z (Andreessen Horowitz) published its latest annual report titled “17 Things to Expect from Cryptocurrency in 2026.”

The report forecasts that by 2026, cryptocurrencies will bring significant changes in the fields of “Finance, AI (Artificial Intelligence), and Privacy.” Specifically, it highlights the expansion of stablecoins linked to fiat currencies for payments, the development of on-chain financial transactions, the proliferation of AI-driven agents, and privacy-focused blockchain technologies as key trends.

Will Over 100 Cryptocurrency ETFs Be Born in 2026?

On December 18, Bitwise, a U.S. asset management firm, predicted that more than 100 cryptocurrency ETFs will be launched in the U.S. in 2026.

Bitwise explained that this forecast is based on the SEC (U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission) releasing general listing standards for cryptocurrency ETFs in September, enabling ETF issuers to list products under common rules.

In response to this outlook, Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seifert expressed full agreement with Bitwise’s prediction on his X (formerly Twitter), warning that “the proliferation of many cryptocurrency ETFs could lead to numerous liquidations.”

2026 Tax Reform Outline: Introduction of Tax Filing Separation and 3-Year Loss Carryforward

The government and ruling parties (Liberal Democratic Party and Nippon Ishin no Kai) summarized the tax reform outline for 2026 on December 19.

Norwegian Government Fund Fully Supports MetaPlanet’s Bitcoin Strategy

Norway’s government pension fund NBIM (Norges Bank Investment Management) announced on December 17 that it fully supports five management proposals related to Bitcoin (BTC) financial strategies presented by MetaPlanet Inc., listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

These proposals are scheduled to be discussed at the company’s extraordinary general meeting on December 22, with NBIM indicating prior support. The proposals include changes to capital structure and the introduction of new perpetual preferred shares, aiming to enhance capital flexibility for Bitcoin accumulation while minimizing dilution of existing shareholders.

“The Best Year Is Yet to Come” Long-term Bullish Scenario for Cryptocurrency Market

Tom Lee, co-founder of U.S. investment research firm Fundstrat, appeared on CNBC on December 15 to discuss the long-term bullish outlook for the cryptocurrency market, considering the current market environment.

Lee expressed the view that “the best years are ahead,” stating that the fundamental market conditions for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum remain robust.

As a basis for this outlook, Lee pointed out that while only about 4 million Bitcoin wallets hold over $10,000 (approximately 1.55 million yen), there are about 900 million IRA and securities accounts worldwide with assets exceeding $10,000, indicating a potential market expansion of approximately 200 times.
