The number of active validators on the Solana network has dropped significantly, sparking heated discussions in the community.

BlockBeats news, on December 9, according to CriptoNoticias, the number of active validators on Solana has dropped from over 2,500 to about 800 since March 2023, a decrease of more than 68%. The community is divided on this phenomenon: one side believes that “removing Sybil nodes” helps the health of the network; the other side (including some infrastructure teams) claims that most of the recent departures were real operators who chose to exit due to economic and operational costs. The actual impact on decentralization depends on the number of independent validators that remain and the distribution of staking/voting power.
