actually, the key variable here is whether these benchmarks are accounting for survivorship bias... think of it this way—top performers staying visible while liquidated traders vanish from the leaderboard creates a selection bias that skews the whole competitive landscape reading. ceteris paribus, you're comparing yourself against a filtered dataset, not the true distribution.
