CoinVoice has learned that last week, the Bitcoin Core development team added a trust key maintainer for the first time in three years. The developer known as TheCharlatan became the sixth key holder with commit access to the main branch, joining Marco Falke, Gloria Zhao, Ryan Ofsky, Hennadii Stepanov, and Ava Chow. At least 20 members of the GitHub development community agreed to the promotion, with no objections.
The nomination comments describe them as a reliable reviewer, working extensively in critical areas of the codebase, thoughtfully considering user and developer needs, and well-versed in the technical consensus process. TheCharlatan graduated from the University of Zurich with a degree in Computer Science, focusing on reproducibility construction and Bitcoin Core verification logic. Since Bitcoin’s inception in 2009, control of the keys has evolved from Satoshi Nakamoto personally to the current decentralized management model involving six individuals.
