The supply structure of Bitcoin is progressing according to a thoroughly designed scarcity principle. Currently, over 19.975 million BTC, approximately 95% of the maximum supply of 21 million, has already entered the network, with about 1.8 million remaining to be mined. This indicates that the Bitcoin mining era has entered its final stage.

Mining Schedule Created by the Halving Mechanism

The speed of Bitcoin mining is regulated through the four-year cycle of halving events. The reward, which started at 50 BTC per block in the early days, has now been reduced to 3.125 BTC. This gradual reduction process will continue for over 115 years, with the last Bitcoin expected to be added to the network around 2140.

Thanks to this structure, the remaining supply is released at an even slower rate. As halving events occur repeatedly, mining difficulty increases, and the issuance of new coins becomes more scarce.

Network Operation Model After Mining Ends

Once Bitcoin mining is complete, the profit structure for miners will fundamentally change. Block rewards will be replaced by transaction fees as the sole incentive.

There were concerns that this transition might threaten the network’s stability, but if transaction fees provide sufficient economic incentives, miners will continue to be motivated to protect the network. Therefore, the Bitcoin network is expected to operate normally even after 2140.
