The popularity of decentralized storage has remained strong over the past two years, and Walrus, as a storage solution within the Sui ecosystem, is indeed rapidly rising. The most intuitive feeling is that it is neither just a simple accumulation of technology nor blind expansion, but rather it has grasped the inherent momentum of the Sui ecosystem itself.

From a technical perspective, Walrus's Red Stuff 2D erasure coding technology and programmable storage architecture are particularly suitable for some of the current new scenarios—AI+Web3, RWA, the Metaverse—where storage demands are urgent. For example, in AI-generated art, seven projects are already storing model data on Walrus, with costs 30% cheaper than AWS S3, which is a tangible advantage. In the RWA direction, by integrating with RWA protocols on the Sui chain, real estate certificates and supply chain documents can be stored on-chain for proof, creating a synergistic effect that traditional storage solutions cannot achieve.

However, the current challenge is that as the ecosystem scales, these issues are also fully emerging. Developer ecosystem construction still needs to be strengthened, there is significant room for optimization of the node network, and the path to commercialization is still being explored. Although competitors in the market each have their own characteristics, they are all watching closely.

The key is how to balance these two aspects—maintaining rapid expansion without sacrificing user experience; insisting on technological innovation while strengthening ecosystem collaboration. How well this balance is managed will largely determine how far Walrus can go in the future. At present, a preliminary ecosystem closed loop has already formed (technological innovation → scenario implementation → node expansion), but long-term development still depends on how the team responds to these deep-seated challenges.

To be honest, Walrus's move this time is quite impressive. Now it depends on whether the team can withstand the subsequent pressure, as there are many competitors. A 30% reduction in costs is indeed competitive, but ecosystem development is still a shortcoming.

Walrus does have some strength, but how long the 30% cost advantage can last is a question.

Walrus does have some substance, but don't overhype it.

Walrus's move this time definitely has substance; no hype, no criticism.
