Flow Blockchain in crisis: forced reversal without coordination creates disproportionate economic risks

The Flow team has made a controversial decision by reversing their blockchain, but under a forced perspective of urgent synchronization with the main ecosystem players. However, this action has excluded critical partners like deBridge, creating a situation of systemic risk.

Broken communication: a bigger problem than the original attack

According to Alex Smirnov, co-founder of deBridge, via the X platform, the Flow team did not establish any coordination with bridge providers before executing the reversal. As one of the main facilitators of cross-chain connections for Flow, deBridge found itself outside any prior dialogue, raising questions about the ecosystem’s response capability.

Smirnov emphasized a critical point: the economic loss resulting from this hasty reversal will far exceed the impact of the attack that was being mitigated. Transactions executed in good faith during the affected window by bridges, custodians, and users will now be compromised, introducing systemic issues that will transcend the affected parties themselves.

Urgent call: halt validation until clear plans are established

Smirnov made a direct call to all validators of the Flow network to immediately cease validation of transactions on the reversed chain. This measure should remain in place until three essential conditions are met:

• Establishment of a clear compensation plan for those affected
• Effective coordination with all ecosystem partners
• Active participation of the security team in future decisions

Currently, Flow’s RPC nodes maintain the reversed state but are not processing new transactions, leaving the network in an operational limbo that reflects the lack of prior planning in this critical decision.
