On July 17, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky reclaimed his X account and disowned an AI-generated thread promoting real-world asset tokenization that a hacker posted on July 14, which garnered over 700,000 views before being identified and removed.

The now-deleted posts argued that tokenization could make buildings, bonds and funds easier to divide, trade and settle. Chesky acknowledged the breach by posting: "To the person who hacked my account earlier this week: thanks for all the new crypto followers. To my new crypto followers: I'm going to be a very disappointing follow." AI-detection firm Pangram flagged the text as machine-generated, marking a shift in account hijacks toward narrative manipulation rather than immediate financial scams.
