Alberta Premier Announces Non-Binding Vote on Independence for October 19

GateNews
According to Jin10, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced on May 22 a non-binding vote scheduled for October 19 to allow residents to decide whether the province should remain in Canada or proceed with a legally binding independence referendum. The ballot will ask: "Should Alberta continue as a Canadian province, or should the Alberta government initiate a legal process under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding referendum on separation?" Smith, who personally supports Alberta remaining in Canada, stated concerns about a court ruling that blocked a citizen petition for independence. Alberta is Canada's fourth-most populous province with approximately 5 million residents and is known for its oil sands reserves.
