According to Reuters, Apptronik, backed by Google DeepMind and Mercedes-Benz, recently launched large-scale data collection operations at its flagship Robot Park training facility in Austin, Texas, spanning approximately 8,361 square meters. Apollo 2 humanoid robots execute material handling and sorting tasks under remote operator guidance, generating real-world physical interaction data to train AI models powering the robots' autonomous decision-making.
Apollo 2 features dual bipedal and wheeled chassis configurations, stands 1.8 meters tall, lifts up to 25 kilograms per hand, and operates for approximately 4 hours per charge. The company has raised approximately $1 billion cumulatively and holds a valuation exceeding $5.5 billion, with Mercedes-Benz already deploying Apollo units for material handling in its manufacturing facilities.
