Bank of England May Warn of Rate Hikes But Likely to Resume Cuts in December, Berenberg Says

According to Berenberg analyst Andrew Wishart, the Bank of England is expected to maintain its key rate at 3.75% on Thursday (July 29), though it may warn of potential rate hikes if energy prices surge significantly. However, Wishart noted such warnings do not signal a high likelihood of actual increases. He added the central bank is likely to resume rate cuts in December and gradually reduce the policy rate to 3.0% by mid-2027, as wage and services inflation trends downward.
