Bank of Korea Updates Manufacturing Supply Chain Map; Seoul Region Now Controls 82.3% of Chip Production, Taiwan Semiconductor Exports Jump to 2nd Rank

According to the Bank of Korea, the country released an updated production and supply chain map for major manufacturing sectors on July 27, covering semiconductors, automobiles, displays, and other key industries.

In semiconductors, the capital region's production share rose to 82.3% in 2024 from 80.7% in 2021, driven by facilities operated by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. Taiwan's share in chip exports surged to 2nd place with 19.9% in 2025, up from 4th place at 9.0% in 2022, attributed to AI infrastructure buildout demand for advanced packaging and foundry services. In automobiles, China's global production share reached 33.8% in 2024, with Korean imports of Chinese electric vehicles accounting for 70% of total EV imports, valued at $2.2 billion.
