Bolivia Studies USDT Integration Into National Payment System Following Crypto Ban Reversal

According to Bolivia's Economy Minister Jose Gabriel Espinoza, the government is studying the integration of USDT, the largest stablecoin by market capitalization, into its national payment system on Friday. Espinoza stated that Bolivia lacks the regulatory framework to implement the measure immediately, despite the Central Bank lifting its ban on digital asset operations in June 2024. Crypto trading volumes surged over 600 percent in the first half of 2025 following the lifting of the 2020 ban. The minister stressed that stablecoins must be properly regulated to prevent money laundering, citing Bolivia's Financial Action Task Force gray-list status since June 13, 2025.
