Canada Selects German TKMS for Submarine Fleet, CAD 50 Billion Project on July 6

According to Globe and Mail, Canada selected German shipbuilder ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) as the preferred bidder for a major submarine procurement project worth up to CAD 50 billion on July 6. Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to announce the decision in Halifax, Nova Scotia, home to Canada's major naval base, before departing for a NATO meeting in Turkey. The project covers submarine construction, operations, maintenance, and capability upgrades. As with most major defense procurement processes, this designation does not guarantee a final contract, according to the report.
