GateNews

According to the Public Security Bureau Cyber Security Bureau, Chengdu authorities recently dismantled a large-scale information trafficking ring, arresting 56 people and taking criminal compulsory measures against 11 key suspects. The case involves over 1.3 million pieces of leaked data and 1.6 million yuan in illicit proceeds.

Investigation revealed that insiders at real estate agencies illegally obtained homeowner information, which middle-man traffickers then resold through multiple layers to downstream real estate agents and home renovation firms for targeted marketing. The 11 main suspects faced charges for information theft and trafficking, while 45 downstream buyers received administrative penalties for illegal purchase and use of personal data.
