China Leads Development of Five International Natural Gas Standards, Released by ISO

GateNews

According to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), China recently led the development and release of five international standards in the natural gas sector. The standards introduce quantified metrics to provide global energy markets with cost reduction, efficiency improvements, and safety assurance.

Among these, China’s shale gas development standard—the Shale Brittleness Index Measurement and Calculation series—addresses key challenges in shale gas extraction, including difficulties in identifying high-quality reservoirs and high fracturing modification costs. This marks the first international-level standardization of shale gas compressibility evaluation frameworks.
