China Resumes Lithium Battery Consumption Tax Starting September 1; Yinwei Lithium Issues Cost Pass-Through Notice

According to a pricing notice released by Yinwei Lithium Energy today (July 27), China will resume consumption tax on lithium batteries and lithium-ion accumulators effective September 1, 2026. The company announced it will pass the new tax cost to customers, marking the first formal cost-transmission notification from a major domestic battery maker following the policy rollout. The tax increase, mandated by the Ministry of Finance, General Administration of Customs, and State Taxation Administration under Public Notice No. 20 of 2026, is classified as a legal and rigid cost adjustment that Yinwei and its subsidiaries will implement in accordance with regulations.
