China Warns Japan on Nuclear Policy Shift, Says Misjudgment Will Exact Heavy Price

According to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian on July 20, China warned that if Japan's ruling coalition continues to modify its "Three Non-Nuclear Principles" and deploy allied nuclear weapons on its territory, it would face serious consequences. Lin said Japan's local councils strongly oppose the policy change, reflecting public demand for peace and showing that the ruling authority's departure from the peace constitution and accelerated "remilitarization" lacks domestic support. China stated the move would constitute a serious challenge to the post-WWII international order and the nuclear non-proliferation framework, and would violate Japan's own peace commitments.
