According to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, researchers from the Institute of Chemistry led by Qiao Yan and Wang Shu, in collaboration with domestic and international scientists, achieved the first asymmetric division of artificial cells in both morphology and function on May 13. The findings, published in the journal Nature on the same day, fill a long-standing technical gap in the intersection of chemistry, materials science, and synthetic biology.
