Coinbase Cuts AI Spending by Half After Switching to Open-Source Models Including GLM 5.2, Kimi 2.7

According to BlockBeats, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong announced today (June 28) that the company has cut AI spending by roughly half after switching default models to open-source options including GLM 5.2 and Kimi 2.7, even as token usage continues growing exponentially.

The company now uses intelligent model routing and cache optimization to lower inference costs, defaulting to cheaper open-source models while reserving more powerful frontier models for necessary scenarios only.
