Coinbase Launches Post-Quantum Custody System, Forms Bitcoin Security Advisory Board

According to Coinbase on Thursday, July 24, the U.S. exchange announced plans to deploy a post-quantum custody system to prepare Bitcoin for future quantum computing threats. Coinbase formed an Independent Advisory Board on Quantum Computing and Blockchain earlier this year, which will deliver a post-quantum signing pipeline using secure enclaves and threshold cryptography. The company said it will automate the pipeline within the next year, allowing quantum-safe custody once blockchains adopt post-quantum schemes. Currently, Coinbase's key management system protects approximately 99.9% of the assets the company custodies.
